While all this was going on in the marketing world, Kumar started his year-end vacation -- a week earlier than me!! He decided to spend his 41st birthday in India hanging out with his Grandpa, uncles, aunts, cousins... and to show up there unannounced! He flew into Delhi on Saturday night and went for Spanish tapas (yes, in Delhi) with Parul & Ranveer (cousins). When he returned to his room at 1:00am, he found a birthday cake that the hotel had left there for him, with a note saying something like "we noticed it's your birthday today and we're glad you are spending it here". From the description, the cake was so beautiful that for the first time in 41 years Kumar regretted not having a camera at hand!!
This morning Kumar, Parul and Ranveer drove to Karnal, where they had just enough time to set up the videocam before Anju and Vijay (aunt and uncle) returned from the market and found Kumar sitting in their front yard. They called me when they were about to blow the candles, and everyone sounded thrilled! He'll be there for a week and then join me in BA.
While Kumar's birthday video won't be ready for a while, I do have some new pictures from Jan & Greg's farewell party on Saturday night, which was cheerful and sad at once, with plenty of live music and really nice people to send them off. We'll miss them! The worst part of being an expat is seeing good friends leave town.

Next chapter probably from Buenos Aires, where I will be on Friday after a mere 40-odd hour journey... flying coach!
